Colors of corrugated roofing: the best combinations with examples [28 photos]

The essence of corrugated sheets

Corrugated sheeting is a roofing material made of galvanized steel with a special polymer coating. Appearance – profiled sheets, which are obtained by cold rolling. Using this technology, they create high-quality and reliable material, the properties of which are improved significantly with the help of a polyester or plastisyl coating.

If you look at metal tiles, you will notice that they are produced in a similar way. In this regard, many people wonder: is there a difference between these materials, and if so, where is it? The main difference between materials is their shape and pattern. Corrugated sheets look like slate sheets, but metal tiles are more similar to ceramic tiles, their predecessor.

Another interesting nuance is that the shape and waves of the sheets are individual, each manufacturer tries to make them original. Thanks to this, you can choose the best option for your home and make it unique. Otherwise, the materials are very similar, and which one to choose depends only on how interesting the appearance of the house should be in the end.

Positive aspects of using corrugated sheeting as a roof

Corrugated sheeting is considered a fairly durable material. This is achieved thanks to the manufacturing system of this roofing material.

First, the steel sheets are deformed by cold rolling. And after that, galvanization is applied to the steel, which is a protective layer from external influences on the metal. On top, galvanized steel is coated with several more layers to protect and decorate the material.

Deformation of steel sheets to make corrugated sheets is not done for decoration. This measure increases the strength of steel.

The minimum value of strength enhancement for such actions is about 300%. And the price of corrugated roofing is lower than for other roofing materials.

Another positive quality of corrugated sheets is that steel sheets do not emit unpleasant odors at all. The roof under corrugated sheeting can be of any kind, the main thing is that the slope angle is at least 8 degrees.

Corrugated sheeting is the lightest material, which adds advantages to it compared to other materials.

Advantages and disadvantages

Before giving preference to corrugated sheeting, you need to find out what advantages it has and how many disadvantages it has, so that the choice is not only correct, but also conscious.

A number of positive qualities:

  • Low cost in comparison with similar materials.
  • Long service period. If all technologies are followed, the service life is about 30 years. Corrugated sheeting with a polymer coating can last longer - about 50 years.
  • All possible dimensions of corrugated sheets. Thanks to this, when roofing the roof, you can do without joints, which makes the waterproofing of the highest quality and reliable.
  • Environmental safety thanks to modern production technologies.
  • Simple and convenient installation.
  • Light weight, which means there is no need to strengthen the structure and roof frame; a thin sheathing is enough.

Having become familiar with all the advantages of the material, one could forget about the shortcomings, but they cannot be ignored:
  • Thermal conductivity. The metal is susceptible to the influence of the sun, heats up quickly, and condensation may occur.
  • Poor sound insulation.

Despite the fact that there are disadvantages, the popularity of corrugated sheeting is constantly increasing. It is also worth considering that manufacturers try to take into account the shortcomings, offering products that can eliminate or minimize them.

Types of corrugated sheets depending on the scope of application

Roofing corrugated sheets

This type of material is used to construct lightweight, airtight and durable roofs. Its main distinguishing feature is sufficient rigidity and the ability to withstand heavy loads. Attractive design and beautiful colors make this profiled sheet quite suitable for facing work, constructing decorative (but at the same time reliable) fences and other fences that will not be damaged by bad weather. As an example, we can name the following types of corrugated roofing: NS44, NS35.

Advantages of roofing profiled sheets:

  • low weight per square meter;
  • low cost;
  • long service life, high reliability;
  • speed and ease of installation;
  • beautiful external design.

This material is used when necessary:

  • Build a new roof that can withstand heavy loads;
  • repair the old roof;
  • clad the façade of the house;
  • build a fence or fence;
  • erect a decorative structure.

Load-bearing corrugated sheet

This material is used when elements of buildings and structures that are subject to significant loads are installed. Load-bearing external walls, strong roofs, strong floors - this is the area of use of this profiled sheet. It is easy to recognize the load-bearing profiled sheet - its profile is quite high, and there are special grooves on the corrugation. Examples of brands: H57, H60, H75 and H114.

Advantages of a load-bearing profiled sheet:

  • It is possible to produce sheets of any size upon request;
  • affordable price;
  • long service life (it can range from 40 to 60 years);
  • installation is simple and convenient, takes place in a short time.

This material is used when necessary:

  • Build load-bearing elements of the house (for example, external walls);
  • reliably repair the roof, the load on which is high;
  • install a new roof, assuming that a lot of snow will accumulate on it, and wind and rain loads will also be noticeable;
  • decorate the facade of the building, as well as its walls or ceilings;
  • build a strong fence.

Wall corrugated sheeting

It is used not only for the construction of walls (external and internal). It is also good to make fences surrounding private houses from such profiled sheets. It is inexpensive and thoroughly protects against corrosion, which is why it is very popular among professional builders. As a rule, it has a rectangular or trapezoidal profile, it can be simply galvanized, or have a polymer coating. Examples of brands: C8, C10, C18, C21, C44. It should be noted that the most popular types of corrugated sheeting for walls and fences are C8 and C21.

Advantages of wall profiled sheets:

  • Walls made of it are much lighter than those made of reinforced concrete;
  • Drilling holes and cutting this material is very easy, so installation is simple;
  • low cost.

This material is used when necessary:

  • Carrying out cladding or facing works;
  • carrying out facade works;
  • installation of load-bearing elements;
  • performing roofing work (construction of a new roof or repair of an old one);
  • production of decorative metal structures.

Types of material

In general, corrugated sheets can be divided into several categories:

  • Roofing. Based on the name, it is clear that it is used for roofs with a profile height exceeding 2 cm, while the wave height is at least 4.5 cm.
  • Wall corrugated sheeting – used for wall cladding.
  • Bearing - used for the construction of shops or stalls. In this case, the supporting structure is assembled from 2 sheets of corrugated sheets, between which insulation is placed.
  • Wall-load-bearing is a universal, combined option that can be used for cladding and for creating quick buildings.

Calculation of quantity and price

Before purchasing corrugated sheeting, you need to calculate how much material you will need. Thus, you can save money by purchasing only the amount of material that is useful for roofing. If the calculations are carried out for a simple one- or two-pitch roof, then you can do them yourself, just know a couple of mathematical formulas from the school curriculum.

If the roof has a more complex structure, there is a high probability of calculation errors. Based on this, it follows that it is better to involve a professional architect who can accurately calculate the amount of material required using a special computer program.

Also, to save money, it is recommended to purchase roofing material not in stores, but from manufacturers. There are a number of factories producing corrugated sheets on the territory of the Russian Federation, so there should not be any problems with purchasing the material.

The cost of the material depends on the thickness and height of the sheets, as well as the region of the country. In general, the average cost is 140-190 rubles per 1 square meter.

Canopies made of metal profiles: photos of various options

Very often there is a need to build a canopy for some purpose near your home. This could be a canopy over a terrace for relaxation or a gazebo, a garage or simply a warehouse for various home and garden equipment. The structure can be separate or adjacent to another building or house. Today, canopies are most often made from metal profiles. Photos of various options and drawings can be found in the public domain. In addition, the cost of such a structure is within the capabilities of most owners.

To install a simple canopy, you will need to purchase a profile pipe of various sizes and profiled sheets for the roof and, if necessary, for the walls. Alternatively, the roof can be made of polycarbonate. The design of the canopy depends on its purpose and size. This also affects the parameters of the profile pipe for the racks. The canopy can be open or closed. A closed canopy, in addition to the roof, also has walls.

The roof design may vary. The simplest and most common is a pitched roof. Often it is made gable. In gazebos and terraces for relaxation, the roof is made in the form of a pyramid, and sometimes even in the Chinese style with edges curved up. With the advent of flexible roofing materials, arched roofs covered with polycarbonate have become popular. Bent trusses for them can only be made on a special machine.

Caring for a corrugated roof

Corrugated sheeting is considered a universal and not particularly demanding material, however, it also requires some care. First of all, this concerns the transportation of roofing material. It must be transported as carefully as possible, observing a number of rules; if the polymer coating of the sheets is damaged, they will become unsuitable for roofing, and their service life will be significantly reduced.

In connection with this factor, corrugated sheets are packed in special bags, after which they are tied with metal tapes. Before packing the sheets into one box, you need to sort them depending on size and thickness. This material can only be transported in closed transport.

In general, this is the only condition for care, since the corrugated sheet itself is a very durable and reliable material. It does not require special care during operation and serves for a very long time and reliably. If the surface becomes dirty, simply wash it with water and detergent. Before using a detergent, you need to familiarize yourself with the composition and find out whether it will damage the polymer coating of the roof. If the roof is damaged by hail, then simply paint over the damaged areas.

Brown colors of corrugated sheets for roofs

Colored corrugated roof sheeting RAL 8017 is the real “king” of brown shades of corrugated sheets. And not at all because there are no other contenders for the “crown”, although this is true - apart from this palette, only RAL 8019 is used for painting metal profiles, but even that is rare. This title of RAL 8017 is deserved: fences, gates, utility buildings and, of course, roofs are made from sheets of a beautiful chocolate brown shade. A metal profile of this shade is used almost more often than corrugated sheets of all other colors combined.

Such popularity did not arise out of nowhere. This rich, but not very dark brown color of corrugated sheet roofing is universal. The “chocolate” roof goes well with other materials, be it red facing brick, light brown timber or, even a gas block very close to white shades. Therefore, roofing made from RAL 8017 Chocolate is the choice for those who are unsure of their ability to combine colors.

In addition, the brown colors of the roofing sheets are non-marking - dirt and stains are practically invisible on them. Therefore, the roof looks like new even years after the roofing has been installed.

The main disadvantage of this color of corrugated roofing follows from its advantages: calm, consistent RAL 8017 is a classic, very common shade, which is why a house with such a roof may seem boring, even devoid of individuality. Especially with a standard gable or hip roof. And if for natural tiles the same color is an inevitable evil, which is compensated by the richness of the texture, then for corrugated sheets, refusing brighter, more saturated and unusual shades is not the best choice, given how diverse the color range of metal profiles for the roof is.

Choose a brown metal profile for the roof if you do not like bright colors and want the design of your house to be consistent, without original color schemes.
