How they made a fence and a gate with a gate for me at the Vremya Goda company - it’s better not to mess with it

A brief history... We never got around to replacing the old slate fence along the outer edge of the site - first one thing, then another... And so, within a few years, the old fence completely collapsed.
As for the fence between mine and the neighbor’s property, there was generally a chain-link mesh there. And then, in the spring of 2021, the fence collapsed and it was no longer possible to put off replacing it...

Unfortunately, at this time I seriously injured my hand and could not replace the fence myself.
I decided to hire a company.
At the same time, I decided to immediately make swing gates for cars and a gate.

I spent a long time looking for a contractor for this work. In the end, I found guys whose site I really liked - I then decided that this was happiness! They do a lot of things that I had to do in the future - a variety of fences and a platform for cars and registration of the entrance to the site and the blind area around the house. Here they are - and they have a wonderful website “Fences for All” - https://vsemzabori.ru/

The prices declared on the website seemed to fit into the average for this type of work: - a fence on average is 1,400 rubles per meter along with materials - this is on 60x60 posts and two transverse joists. The height of the profiled sheet is 2m and the pillars are driven into the ground.

The total length of my fence was 90m and the swing gates made of corrugated sheets were 5m wide and the gate was 1m wide. At the same time, they decided to make the fence between my site and the neighbors from a picket fence. I tried to negotiate with the neighbors to build a fence between our plots, but they refused. So you have to do it at your own expense.

The website “Fences for All” provided information about the possibility of choosing different fence colors according to RAL, which made my wife very happy. The wife chose the light gray color of the picket fence RAl9002 - white night

I called the company and we agreed to meet on site and take the necessary measurements. According to their terms, based on the results of on-site calculations, I will have to either make an advance payment for the work or pay for their departure of 3,000 rubles.

Osipova Viorika and Denis came to my site. As it turned out, Viorica (or as she calls herself, Veronica) is the general director of the company, and Denis is the worker who will install everything.

What was a little confusing from the very beginning was that the tape measure they used for measurements was torn off at the beginning and did not measure from ZERO. Denis measured the elevation differences along the edge of my site with a level. Moreover, I had to stand with the ruler on which he took measurements, and Viorika wrote them down. I even came back separately and tried everything on again myself. I must note that the measurements of the length of the fence were carried out correctly and my worries were in vain.

Initially I wanted to do the following types of work:

- fence along the outside of the site - 50m - swing gates 5m wide + 1m wicket on a shallowly recessed strip and plus one meter from each edge - 8m in total. — entrance to the site through a ditch with pipe replacement

They calculated for a long time and I asked clarifying questions, because the amounts were somehow astronomical. For just crossing the ditch it was 168,000 rubles. This is a width of 9m (although it was originally about 8m) and a concrete thickness of 20cm.

When I tried to understand how such sums came out, Viorica began to raise her voice, which I attributed to the emotionality of the person. But the phrase that she was already tired and was late to see some doctor there surprised me... The question is - why the hell did you come to the site as a surveyor?

But the calm behavior of Denis, who was present during the calculations, reassured me, since he had to do the work.

As a result of such prices, after consulting with my wife, I decided to abandon the work of crossing the ditch, and instead build a fence along the outside of the site and between the neighbors and a gate with a gate.

At the prices we were quoted:

— 59 m fence made of corrugated sheets — rounded 85,000 — 1,440 rubles each — 31 m picket fence — rounded 51,000 — 1,650 rubles each — foundation for gates and wickets — 8 m x 0.4 m x 0.6 m — 40,800 rubles — swing gates 5 m with installation of corrugated sheets in the inner frame of the gate - 27,000 rubles - 1m wide gate with installation of a picket fence in the inner frame of the gate - 9,800 rubles - delivery 6,000 rubles Total for the circle is approximately 219,000 rubles.

I made an advance payment and signed the contract in one copy. I was ready to come to the office to sign the second copy, but Viorica sent it to me by email and responded to all my attempts to appear in the office that everything could be done remotely. This started to raise some questions in me. Moreover, one of the offices appears in Sindik, and it, as I found out, successfully burned down and everything there was dismantled a long time ago. We talked in mid-April and I asked right away whether it would be a problem to start work on the May holidays? To which I received the answer that there would be no problems at all.

What again surprised me was that I could not insist on fixing a specific date for the start of work, despite the fact that there were about 2 weeks before the expected start date of work. I later understood that only Denis and a couple of guys work in this company as a construction team. I could be wrong, of course, but if the company has several teams, then assigning a specific start date for work in accordance with the list of current work available to the head of the company is not a problem.

While I was waiting for the work to begin, being in Moscow, I received several calls from Viorica with a message that the RAL color we initially selected was not available or that we would have to pay an increased fee for a “non-standard” color. To my question that this information is not on their website - that I need to make an additional payment, I did not receive an intelligible answer. I had to settle on standard colors.

Another unpleasant thing was that I only looked at the prices for the fence on their website, but while the measurements were being taken, they changed the prices on the website and the calculation was already made at slightly inflated prices, and I didn’t even pay attention to it right away.

And when I tried to discuss this in Viorikoi, she constantly started screaming. The most interesting thing was that I opened their browser page with prices. During the conversation, out of curiosity, I opened a new page with the same information and updated it. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the same page, which displayed the old prices that I was initially guided by and the updated ones on the second page.

.

Another “feature” was in the estimate for the work. For example, there was the size of the foundation for the gate and gate: 8m x 0.6m x 0.4m, but there was not a word about the fact that there should have been 60 cm of sand under it, which we talked about during the discussion. and as a result, they dug 20 centimeters under the sand.

Or about the pillars for the gates - the estimate indicated 80x80 pillars, but the fact that the thickness of the walls for such a wide gate should have been 3mm, and not 2mm, as it turned out in reality, was not a word.

Or the presence of a crossbar above the gate, which was not mentioned in the estimate, but this point was discussed. And then Viorika simply frantically demanded that I pay for this 5m crossbar from a 40x20 profile, 5,000 rubles, to which I naturally did not agree. She did not listen to my arguments at all and constantly screamed. As a result, the guys removed this crossbar and took it with them, and then I made the same one.

When we agreed on the start of work, I warned Viorica that work should begin on Monday, since it would be easier for me to be on site. And the day before, my brothers will remove my old fence.

Imagine my surprise when early on Sunday morning I receive an SMS from Viorica with a message that I urgently need to remove the old fence because Denis will arrive tomorrow, Monday. My attempts to talk to her about this ended in another scream and she simply hung up and did not answer my calls when I tried to call her back.

I was completely shocked and already regretted that I had made an advance payment. It’s good that I had Denis’s phone number and by contacting him I tried to clarify the situation. It turned out that this was the first time he had heard that he was supposed to be with me tomorrow, since they had to register someone from their team and they could only arrive on Tuesday.

We agreed with him that we would remove the fence between neighbors on Monday, and dismantle the main fence along the outer perimeter when he definitely said that they were coming to our site.

Upon the arrival of the construction crew on Tuesday (Denis and his partner) at the site, I paid Denis for all the materials and as a result I owed about 43,000 rubles and kopecks, which I will have to pay according to the acceptance certificate upon completion of all the work when I have to hand over my work .

The guys put up poles and hung corrugated sheets and screwed on the picket fence. It took a day and a half.

I prepared the place for digging a trench for future concrete pouring earlier.

The guys dug a trench. While digging, it was revealed that the pillars for the gates are 2 mm thick, not 3, and that they “always do it this way.” It was also revealed that they are not going to dig more than 20cm under the pillow and this was supposedly discussed earlier. Well, what can you do here?

Already on Wednesday evening, the gate and gate were installed in the trench and secured a little. I had to leave for Moscow to take my brothers and early on Friday morning I came back because Denis decided not to mix concrete in a concrete mixer, but to order branded concrete from the factory and I wanted to control this process.

Upon arrival, I saw that the fixed gates had been slightly distorted by the wind and had to be reinstalled. I insisted that “ears” be made at the bottom of the profile pipe under the gate flaps and bent to the sides so that the concrete would fall there when pouring. In the trench, the gates were reinforced with mesh and reinforcement. After pouring the concrete for the foundation, I poured the remaining concrete inside the pillars.

But the guys sewed up the gate tightly with corrugated sheets and to my question, why not a picket fence? received a counter question: “What didn’t you say before?” I was completely blown away. Denis said that they were sent without any paper at all about what they had to do.

They had to twist the corrugated sheet onto the picket fence, but they screwed extra holes in the gate frame for me.

Also, at my insistence, the gate post was rigidly fixed by welding with braces, so that when the concrete was poured and it hardened, the entire structure would hold tight and not wobble. The guys told me that they had never done this. I was very surprised by this.

As for the trench. I planned to make it 8m long specifically so that trucks could easily enter the gate from a narrow street. So here it is. In fact, it turned out that it would be quite possible to get by with a length of 7 meters and save a little on the foundation. The guys agreed with me. I called Viorica with this question, to which I received an answer that, according to the contract, all changes must be made in writing and a week before work. There was no normal conversation again. I just didn’t want to communicate with her anymore. Thus, the guys had to dig to the 8m agreed upon in the contract.

Concrete arrived in a mixer and was poured into the trench. First they laid geotextiles, then sand and crushed stone, a small formwork and poured concrete on top. I got a deep vibrator and the guys used it when pouring concrete. Before pouring, I stipulated that it was necessary to make a slight slope towards the road.

Yes, according to calculations, 1.92 cubic meters of concrete were needed, but they ordered 2.5 cubic meters. I don’t know how they dug the trench or they cheated at the factory, but after pouring there was practically nothing left.

Upon completion of the work, I was required to pay the balance of 43,000 and kopecks, which I refused to do, citing the fact that payment must be made upon delivery of all completed work, when the concrete has set and they have shown me how the locks work and the opening of gates and gates, and at the moment the concrete was just poured, I didn’t open the gate and I don’t know how it functions, the formwork and braces are in place and I also can’t check how the lock on the gate functions.

Viorica started screaming on the phone again, threatening that now the workers would fucking dismantle everything because I refused to pay. When I tried to explain my position, she simply started screaming and did not listen to me. The fact that I paid for all the materials and only part of the work was left to me did not suit her. It seems that she is simply obsessed with getting money...

She immediately demanded that the top crossbar be removed, despite the fact that it provided additional rigidity to the structure and its removal could affect the quality of the work.

The guys left leaving me with this crossbar, but they took 4 keys to the gate, leaving me with one... so Viorica turned the guys away from the track and demanded that they take this crossbar. At the same time, she asked me to make a video review with a positive assessment of their work. I was just quietly freaked out by this situation.

I quickly made a temporary crossbar from a tire and placed it in place of the one that the returning workers had taken. At least there will be some kind of rigidity.

The concrete was poured on Thursday morning and the following week on Monday I returned to the site again. I called Viorica and asked when she or her representative would arrive to sign the work acceptance certificate, completion of the work and final payment. After all, the work was not completely completed: it was necessary to remove the formwork and demonstrate the operation of locks, wickets, gates... To which I received an answer that no one would go anywhere, that they had completed all the work and I, such an infection, did not pay them and in general I also had to pay a penalty.

To my fair question about who will complete the care, I received a laconic answer that they did everything and did not owe me anything more. And I have to pick up the keys from Denis myself.

In the end, they agreed that they would give me a discount of 3,000 rubles and a few kopecks for hiring unskilled workers who would remove the formwork, paint the fence (which the workers did not paint completely), cut and clean the places where the braces were welded. I was already particularly fed up with this situation and on the same day I made a transfer to them for the remaining amount.

After dismantling the formwork and unlocking the gates, I began to accept the completed work myself.

What struck me from the jambs:

— the difference in height of the foundation strip did not correspond to the previously agreed slope from the site towards the road

— the lower clamps of the gates in the open position barely reached the foundation strip, although they promised to install tubes into which they would fit and fix the gates.

— the welded hinges on both the gate and the gate turned out to be welded only on one side and were not reinforced with spacers-platforms, as is usually done.

- the lock was fastened with roofing screws and the protruding caps were cut off with a grinder

- the counter holes (if you can call it that) for the lock and latch were cut at random

— the latch did not close due to the discrepancy between the cut counter hole

— the gate is welded in the corners, not at an angle of 45 degrees, but rain easily falls into the joint and from above into the pipe and onto the lock, which has already begun to rust.

— the key holes on the outside are not made neatly and have burrs

- the lock was installed incorrectly - to close the lock the key must be turned to open the lock and vice versa. To my question about this Viorica, she pleased me with the answer - “What’s wrong? The lock works." - the corrugated sheet fastening inside the gate frame that was promised to me remained a simple declaration - the corrugated sheet was simply cut at the edges (one hundred sides of the hinges) and was not secured to the inner frame of the gate in any way, since there was a cut off wave of the corrugated sheet there

— welding areas are not cleaned of scale and painted directly over it. There are already traces of rust - the pillars are not painted. But they left me the paint with the words: it’s not difficult - you’ll have to touch it up. — reinforcement sticks out from the concrete strip in some places

— the studs welded to the top of the posts had broken threads, and one post was deformed

— there are holes left on the gate frame from the re-drilled corrugated sheet

- the corrugated sheet on the fence is screwed “through the wave” - for good reason it needs to be additionally fastened. These all the shortcomings can be seen in the photo and part of the video

After talking with Denis, he promised to come to me on a motorcycle and bring me the keys and weld the hinges. But these remained only promises. Then he simply did not answer calls, and Viorika, who emailed me the address where I could find Denis, was not specific, and Denis no longer contacted me. This went on for almost a month and Viorika did not “pull” me, although she sent me an act of completed work on April 18.

I had already come to terms with the fact that I would still have to redo the lock myself, and I was already wondering how the story with the keys would end. Quite unexpectedly, Denis contacted me and told me where I could find him to pick up the keys. It was not possible to do this a couple of times - the first time he directed me in the other direction, the second time he did not leave me what was agreed upon at the security point, and only the third time he met me and gave me the keys. Moreover, he asked me to transport him a pipe bender in my car. In principle, I have nothing against Denis - he is a forced person and I helped him with transportation.

Here's an instructive story... Think for yourself whether to contact them or not. Only now I once again understand the truth of the saying: “If you want it done well, do it yourself.”

But I had to fix their mistakes myself.

Gate designs

According to the opening method, gates made of profile pipes and corrugated sheets can be sliding or swinging. A single sliding gate leaf moves to the side along the line of the installed fence of the site. Moving such a structure can be done manually, but more often a mechanical drive with an electric motor is installed for this purpose.

The main advantage of sliding gates is that they do not require free space on the street or yard side to open them. However, with large dimensions of the canvas, it is necessary to strengthen the entire structure or install special elements so that the side farthest from the load-bearing support does not sag down under its own weight.

Swing structures

These are simpler gates made of corrugated sheets with a wicket, consisting of 1 or 2 rotating leaves, each of which is installed on a separate support post. The gate for the passage of people can be mounted separately or located on the surface of one of the doors.

Calculation of materials for gates and wickets made of corrugated sheets

Once the fence is built, you need to think about installing gates and gates.
We decided to install a swing gate, which will have a separate gate. The width of each leaf will be 2-4 m. The height should be the same as the fence. The size of the gate should be about 1 m wide. The swing elements will be fastened with two hinges. To ensure the reliability of the design, you can also install a third one. To create the perimeter of the gate, a durable 50x50 mm profile is used. The transverse joists are taken a little smaller in size. Note that the transverse elements can be the same as in the fence itself, or they can be made as diagonal straight lines. Welding of elements must be done on a horizontal surface even before they are attached to the hinges. Maintaining a right angle between elements is of great importance . To do this, you need to create a device that consists of two wooden blocks connected at right angles. Having laid out the metal parts on this device, they are tacked by electric welding, and after checking the right angle, you can weld them thoroughly. When the frame is ready, hinges are hung on it.

Preparatory stages

Before you make a gate from corrugated sheets with your own hands, you should think through the sequence of actions and prepare.

The first stage of preparation is determining the size of the gate. The height of the door depends on the height of the fence, but usually does not exceed two meters (two meters and ten centimeters if there are tall men in the family). If the fence is very high, then the gate is not made to cover the entire height of the fence, but lintels are made of a steel profile over the door and covered with corrugated sheets. The width of the opening is usually made one meter to ten centimeters - this width allows you to enter the area with large bags in your hands or bring in furniture. A larger gate width requires a heavier and stronger frame with additional crosspieces; not very convenient to open; there is a possibility of the door skewing during operation.

The second step is to think over the design of the door and support posts and draw a diagram with dimensions.

The third stage of preparation is to prepare materials and tools.

Gate

Must be at least 0.9 m wide. It is usually sold as a set with a gate because both are located quite close to each other and they should look good together. Installed on hinges fixed to the wall or welded to steel posts. A metal plate attached to another post prevents the gate from opening to the street.

Electromagnetic lock

Allows you to control the opening of the gate from home without having to go outside. It is a necessary element of intercom equipment, however, it can also be installed as a stand-alone device.

Material of manufacture

In order for a gate with a wicket to fit organically into the overall picture, the material must be combined with the rest of the buildings on the site. Gates can be blind or through, depending on the wishes of the owners. A third option is also possible - mixed. In such models, the lower blind element limits visibility, and the upper forged or carved part makes the composition lighter and more elegant.

Wooden

Gates made of natural wood are one of the most expensive options. They have the following advantages:

  • you can choose any configuration due to light wood processing;
  • are simply manufactured;
  • You can make such gates yourself, since special narrow-profile tools are not required;
  • a large number of wood species are suitable for the structure;
  • with proper processing, the material will serve for many years;
  • presentable appearance;
  • huge possibilities for finishing.

Minuses:

  • Regular care and restoration are required;
  • treatment with antiseptic and moisture-repellent compounds is required.

Metal welded from corrugated sheets

Simple and effective designs. They have the following advantages:

  • aesthetics - polymer-coated corrugated sheets can have any color, which allows them to fit well into the design;
  • efficiency;
  • the ability to create a relief surface;
  • anti-corrosion properties;
  • durability;
  • ease of installation;
  • You can select sheets of the desired thickness, dimensions, color and configuration.

Among the disadvantages are:

  • external simplicity;
  • noisy when it rains;
  • susceptibility to destruction when the polymer layer is damaged.

Use larger sheets to reduce the number of seams, each of which must be carefully sealed.

Euro picket fence

Recently, a new material presented in the form of metal strips has been gaining popularity. The width of the element approaches 10 cm, and the length ranges from 1.5-3 m. The Euro picket fence is made of galvanized steel and covered with a protective layer of polymers. This is a strong, durable and unpretentious material that does not require special care and can serve for many years. Euro picket fence does not lose color when exposed to sunlight, the paint does not peel off from its surface. Gates made from it go well with brick and stone and have a presentable appearance. Products can be pieced or combined into a single piece. The product is presented in a huge number of shades; there are samples with interesting prints that imitate natural wood or stone. With all its advantages, the Euro picket fence has an affordable price and is available for any budget.

Metal with artistic forging

Luxurious openwork gates are highly durable and unique in style. Such products are often made according to individual sketches. The patterned surface does not block the area from surrounding areas. Typically, such products are chosen by owners of reputable country houses. To support the design, you can use similar forged samples in the design of the entrance lobby, parking lot, gazebo.

Advantages of forged gates with a wicket:

  • long service life;
  • original design;
  • forged elements combine well with other materials - wood, stone.

Disadvantages include the high cost of products and the need for mandatory adherence to production technology. Forged grilles are amazingly beautiful. But creating a gate with a built-in wicket without losing aesthetics is almost difficult. Therefore, it is better to use these elements as decoration.
